Enhancing Quality in Education Through Curriculum Course Maps

CEFR, GSE, EAQUALS descriptors, course objectives, learning outcomes, assessments, assignments and course maps; the touchstones of a curriculum, which is designed to enhance learning, achievement, and quality through a student-centred approach. “Course maps”; a term that is widely used in the field of education especially when emphasising the importance of quality. But, what are course maps? A course map is an overview of all the components of a course: the objectives, activities, assignments and assessments. All these components are mapped to the learning outcomes of the course to show alignment. In other words, to show to what extent the course components lead to the achievement of the learning outcomes. This interactive workshop aims to equip participants with new insights into the curriculum through course mapping and through samples to find answers to the following essential questions: How are course maps designed? How important is it to create a course map? Why should a school have a course map? What impact do course maps have on the quality of education?
